This suspension is a sweet-flavored liquid, making it easier for children to take. It is commonly given to patients 2 months of age and older who have uncomplicated malaria, especially in areas where other malaria treatments may not work well.

This medicine contains two powerful ingredients — artemether and lumefantrine — that work together to kill the malaria parasites in the blood. Artemether acts quickly to reduce the number of parasites, while lumefantrine keeps working to make sure the infection doesn’t come back. Your doctor will give you the right dose based on body weight, and it’s important to complete the full course to fully clear the infection and prevent relapse.

Indications for Artemether 180mg & Lumefantrine 1080mg Oral Suspension:

Lumeshield combinaon therapy is indicated for the treatment of acute uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including malaria acquired in chloroquine-resistant areas. May also be used to treat uncomplicated malaria when the Plasmodium species has not been idenfied. Indicated for use in adults and children greaterthan 5 kg. 

Dosage & Administration:

Administration: Oral Route This dosage is applicable for Artemether20mg + Lumefantrine 120mg/5ml  

Dosage : The dosage regimen of Artemether 180 mg and Lumefantrine 1080 mg is based on the patient’s body weight. For a body weight of 5 kg, the recommended dose is 5 ml once daily for three days. For those weighing 7.5 kg, the dose increases to 10 ml once daily for three days. Patients with a body weight of 10 kg should receive 15 ml daily for three days, and those weighing 15 kg should be administered 20 ml once daily for three consecutive days.

Precautions:

Serious drug interactions can occur when certain medicines are used together. Tell your doctor about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using, especially carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampin, orSt. John’s wort. Artemether and Lumefantrine can make hormonal birth control less effective, including birth control pills, injecons, implants, skin patches, and vaginal rings. To prevent pregnancy while using artemether and Lumefantrine, use a barrier form of birth control: condom, diaphragm, cervical cap, or contraceptive sponge. 

Artemether and Lumefantrine should not be given to a child younger than 2 months or who weighs less than 11 pounds. Grapefruits and grapefruit juice may increase the effects of artemether and lumefantrine combination by increasing the amount of this medicine in your body. You should not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you or your child are taking this medicine. 

• Overdose: Symptoms of overdose may include: severe dizziness, fainting, slow / irregular heartbeat. 
• If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Malaria is more likely to cause death in a pregnant woman. If you are pregnant, talk with your doctor about the risks of traveling to areas where malaria is common. may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks. 

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Artemether and Lumefantrine include: headache, dizziness; fever, cough, feeling weak or red; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; joint pain; voming; or loss of appetite. Serious side effects of Artemether and Lumefantrine include: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, fever, chills, body aches, severe headache, flu symptoms, worsening malaria symptoms;

severe voming, loss of appete, or being unable to eat; fast or pounding heartbeats; a light-headed feeling; or the first sign of any skin rash, no maer how mild.
